在香港，城市大学推出了一个名为“HK Tech 300”的创新创业计划，以帮助有志于创业的学生、校友和年轻人将他们的创意转化为初创企业。这个项目旨在分享来自城市大学同学和校友们的初创故事，其中包括90后生物科技公司Hands Life Science Limited (联手生命科技有限公司，简称HANDS) 的成功案例。

HANDS由26岁的Marco和他的三个香港城大同学共同创建，他们凭借优秀的团队合作和科学研究能力，在短时间内就取得了显著成果。他们获得了城市大学“创意孵化器计划”(SEEDS)以及“大学科技初创企业资助计划”(TSSSU)三年拨款，并且入驻了香港科学园。在2019年，HANDS成功获得了天使投资者Soul Capital提供200万港元的融资。

HANDS最知名的是其制造护肤品牌Factiv，该品牌以透明度高、价格合理而闻名。通过科学实证来支持产品信息，每种产品都以活性成分和浓度命名，为消费者提供基于科学原则的选择。在2020年，Factiv实现了收支平衡，并且营业额超过1,000万港元。

除了Factiv外，HANDS还有两个其他项目：利用微藻提取物开发护肤产品，以及与舒缓情绪相关的一系列个人护理产品。这两项新项目正处于研发阶段，其中一项正在申请专利，而另一项则正在进行临床测试，有望在两年内上市销售。

Marco himself is a unique blend of scientist and entrepreneur - clear in his goals, persistent in his efforts, keen on spotting business opportunities, and optimistic about the future. He co-founded HANDS with his fellow university students and has made significant strides in establishing their company.

In Marco's words: "I believe that science should be democratized. The information about skincare products should not only be accessible to scientists but also to the general public." He hopes to collaborate with dermatologists by the end of 2021 to provide academic research support for each product, further emphasizing their commitment to scientific principles.

The seed of HANDS was planted in a university laboratory where Marco's team conducted extensive research before deciding on microalgae as their focus. Their journey began when they tried modifying E. coli bacteria to absorb excess fatty acids from inside the colon, reducing obesity issues. This project won them an award at MIT's iGEM competition.

However, after realizing that using fish heads or tails would produce DHA more cost-effectively than genetically engineered algae, they shifted their focus towards deep-sea microalgae which produced secondary photosynthetic pigments containing anti-inflammatory properties.

Hong Kong City University played a crucial role in nurturing this innovative spirit through funding and mentorship provided by professors like Dr. Jiang Runchang who became Marco's mentor.

As Marco embarks on his entrepreneurial journey alongside Hong Kong City University alumni association members who are now friends turned partners working together hand-in-hand; he owes it all back home for financial assistance and guidance from family members too who instilled independence into him since childhood days without providing any pocket money after completing DSE examinations following graduation day!

With no immediate income during these first two years while focusing solely on R&D; supplementing life expenses via tutoring sessions & teaching piano lessons as well! Hand-in-hand collaboration between team members have led them down uncharted paths toward developing sustainable solutions grounded upon solid scientific evidence – paving way for potential expansion beyond local shores as early as next year
